Holiday Joy

Christmas is my favorite time of year. In Belgium, we don't have Thanksgiving, so Christmas time is our opportunity to come together as a family. To express our love, and pray for each other. Aside from eating too much food and having a good glass of wine, Christmas Eve was a time to retell beloved memories from the year, recite songs we learned at school, and share art, creativity, and other things we made to our aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.

I feel that this year, more than any other, Christmas has the ability to bring out our hope, joy, love, and passion. The world is filled with so much fear and tension, and the holidays are an opportunity for us to put aside our differences and feel compassion for one another. Across cultural boundaries, beliefs, and even political leanings. We all have many differences, but we are all human. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanzaa, or don't formally celebrate a specific holiday, we can all be thankful and feel compassion.
