When visiting a museum, the viewer has the chance to experience the various attempts and research an artist pursues during his or her career. The artworks there prove that the minds of their creators were constantly calculating and developing their craft. In a museum you can fall in love with the “periode bleue”of Picasso (a “reset” for the artist - surprising artwork from the formidable cubist painter). These collections help us understand the creative process and influences that created the artist's career.
In the same state of mind and willing to follow in the path of great artists, I adapt the way I handle colors, palette, composition, and the “mood” of the subject. I love exploring diverse avenues of creativity and sharing the journey with the viewer. Many artists prefer to display only one side of their work in their galleries and shows - but if you have the chance to visit their studio you may discover different “attempts” and phases of their work. I chose a new approach – I decided to liberate myself from those laws that force you to live within self-imposed limitations.
Be free from the old rules and formulas that tell how an artist should create and display his or her art work! They can prevent the artist from growing and exploring new, exciting paths. It is good to revisit the traditional foundation, learn more techniques, digest them – then use them to reorganize and reinvigorate your work. Even Georgia O'Keefe decided one day to go back to the basics with her series “Works on Paper.” Use the structure and formulas of formal education to add more depth to your “style” and keep your work progressive. But don't be ruled by them!
Working through phases of impressionism, abstraction, expressionism, and realism enables me to realign my work through new pathways and new experiences. Any personality is too diverse and complex to only ever be expressed in one signature style. My heartbeats are the “signature” of my soul, and the deciding element of my creativity. I paint as my heart directs - through different moods, seasons of stress, unavoidable change, and blossoming loves.
